Wpa-psk
I write this connected with somebodys wireless network, and not my own. I have a WPA-PSK security on our network, and it works fine with my wife and sons windows-machines, and it is found by this machine. I guess that my problem is that I do not know what information from router should go where when installing in kubuntu. I have these information fro my router.
Physical adress:
IP- adress
Sub net mask
Std. Gateway
DHCP-server
DNS server
Wan port Mac adress
Can you help me filling in "Edit Network Connection"

1 Completely remove network manager with the Synaptic Package Manager
2 Install NDISwrapper with the Synaptic Package Manager
3 Disable the installed Prism54 modules:…and append the following lines:Code:sudo modprobe -r prism54pci sudo modprobe -r prism54common sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
4 Get the WG511 Windows driver:Code:blacklist prism54pci blacklist prism54common
5 Wrap the driver and add to modules:Code:wget ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/wg511v300.zip unzip wg511v300.zip sudo apt-get install cabextract unshield cabextract WG511v300.exe cd Disk1 unshield x data1.cab cd Driver_xp_File_Group
…and append the following line:Code:sudo ndiswrapper-1.9 -i netwg511.inf sudo modprobe ndiswrapper sudo ndiswrapper -m sudo gedit /etc/modules
6 Download and install WICD (”Wicd was started because of the lack of useful, functional wireless network connection managers in Linux.”)Code:ndiswrapper
7 Use WICD from the menu item in the Applications menu to configure for your wireless connection. The original posts mention that you might have to flip between wext and ndiswrapper drivers to get going.
8 If all else fails, restart the PC

@dn90 We need more information. Please read the wireless setup sticky and post the requested information. You may want to start a new thread for it.
@lowglow Please do not hijack threads. You should start a new thread for your problem.
@DaGoomba I'm totally confused by your advice. Unless there was a post deleted, I don't see anything to indicate using Ndiswrapper or anything regarding the prism54 module.

PLEASE DO NOT INSTALL NDISWRAPPER AT THIS TIME!
Before we can recommend uninstalling and installing anything, we need detailed information. Please read the thread linked to below, as it explains the info needed, and how to find it. Run the script in the second part to get the info automatically.
Wireless Setup - Start HerePaul
Please do not send Private Messages to me with requests for help. I will not reply.

Sry guys but Im newb in Linux... I've installed it a day ago. So will be faster to do that has written DaGoomba.. In Synaptic Package Manager are also similar packages like network-manager-dev, network-manager-gnomes and others... Do I need to delete them too? Or just only network-manager? :/
- 10-17-2009 #10No. His advice has nothing to do with your hardware. So will be faster to do that has written DaGoomba.
So, first problem is, I don't see a wireless card listed. Can you post the output ofDon't forget to use code tags as described here.Code:lsusb lsmod
