    Installing Help please!

Hey guys im new to linux and everything and I installed ubuntu along with my windows 7 ultimate beta activated and really prefer ubuntu over windows 7 but I have 3 major problems when i tried to use the demo and said you need to reboot it i click on it nothing happens then i try again on manual reboot then when it reboots im back at windows 7 even though i have the cd in the tray.

My other 2 problems are really annoying i got this laptop with windows vista upgraded to windows 7 im sure you heard a million of those types of storys anyway, I have a realtek audio card/ driver thing and when I try to put the audio on using ubuntu no sound and I haave no idea where to download/ install drivers

my last problem is with a flashplayer i have tried the adobe flash player so many times but it never works iv'e also tried third party ones but still no luck could someone really help me out.

My friend uses linux (thats the reason i got hooked into it) alot and you had this cube effect or what ever and he multiable desktops thought that was really cool can ubuntu to that???
    Or was that slackware?

You have vista and Ubuntu installed, what 'demo' are you talking about?

said you need to reboot it i click on it nothing happens
Who said you need to reboot? You click on what? What 'it' are you referring to.

When you reboot you're back at windows 7 even though you have what CD in the tray? Which bootloader are you using?

Installing anything on Ubuntu it would be a good idea to start with the Repositories and I would suggest you read some Ubuntu tutorials for beginners. Here's a link to info on repositories for Ubuntu:

    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu

Did you go to the Adobe site to download the Linux version of flashplayer?

The cube effect would depend on your graphics card, think you need 3D capability.

There's going to be a bit of a learning curve with linux. I recommend reading up on the basics. Ubuntu has some very good documentation.

    Start here for sound troubleshooting:
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting

    Read this:
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Sw...tu/FromWindows

For flash and some other common non-free stuff, look here:
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats
    Basically for this just do
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
The cube is part of a window manager called compiz-fusion. Ubuntu includes it by default, and it will automically be enabled if your graphics card supports it. For nvidia or some ATI cards, you need their non-free drivers enabled first.

Here is some more info on installing extra stuff and configuring it.
Ubuntu Newbie Guide: Compiz, How to Get the Cube and Mac-like Dock Bar (Avant Window Navigator) [part 4] ~ Web Upd8

I couldn't figure out what you were trying to say with the rest of your problems.
