Easy one: Where is a good place to download Sweep?
Hello all,
I was told that sweep was a good program to use to edit audio clips, but am not having any luck finding a suitable download. Any suggestions? And while I'm writing this I might as well as if anyone is familiar with any good video auditing software? I'm just basically looking to be able to make short clips from longer audio and video files.
Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say suitable download, but sweep is in the Ubuntu repositories, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding it:but am not having any luck finding a suitable download

Have you searched for it in synaptic package manager? I'm using arch and we have it in the arch repos, so I'd be surprised if ubuntu didn't have it.

Thanks, it is in the synaptic package manager, but now the program doesn't seem to open. It is listed in the sound and video program list, but just won't open. I click on it and nothing happens.
Any suggestions?

That is odd, it should open as a GUI application. Try running the command sweep from a terminal and see if it gives you some information.

It appears to be a bug in the program. You might consider filing a bug report.

Not sure of a fix. You could try Audacity instead. It's a much more active project, and is also in the repos.

Audacity, not Sweep...Thanks
Thanks for the advice, Audacity works like a charm. I have also filled out a bug report as per your suggestion. Any programs you recommend for video editing?

Avidemux is one of the more powerful video editors. I don't have much need of them, but I've used it some.

And there's a fairly new project that looks promising, called openshot.

If you need video encoding, handbrake is quite good as well.

Thanks for all of the suggestions in the last post. Avidemux seems like it will work for me. Handbrake looks good for encoding but I use a combination of Brasero, K3b, and k9 copy for all that encoding business. And ffmpeg is a solid program too I have found.
Thanks again.
