    Ubuntu 9.04 & Sound

I recently upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10 and was unable to go on up to 9.04 and ended up doing a fresh install using the entire disk.* I ran Studio to edit and record sound CD,s in 8.04.* Upon installing Jaunty I noticed that I had sound everywhere but my games, on real loss.* I used Synaptic to install Studio and still, sound except no sound on the games (Pysol, Mah Jongg and such) ad no mike feed or playing a CD.* Since the problem was there from the start I don't think if is a Studio problem but I am also open to being wrong.

Unfortunately, troubleshooting sound problems can be pretty complicated.

    I would start with this:
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting

Also, at this point, you might consider installing 9.10 instead of 9.04, since the final release is due quite soon. Might fix your troubles. I understand there have been some improvements to pulseaudio in 9.10.

Try starting your game from the command line with padsp.
    Code:
    padsp pysol
    Does this give sound?

Check alsamixer and make sure nothing is muted, and that the volume is up, also make sure your user account is part of the audia and cdrom group.

    in a terminal type

    alsamixer

then if all is well view /etc/group

    less /etc/group

If you are not a part of the two groups go to System > Administration > Users and Groups and add your self to those groups, see if that will help.

Hit the "Go Advanced" button and select Disable smilies in text.
