Ubuntu 9.04 corrupt file forcing me to pull the plug on the computer
Hello. I am running a dual-boot with Windows XP. The Windows mode runs fine but things freeze up when I try to use Ubuntu. I have ver. 9.04.
I have tried CTRL+ALT+F2 to kill a PID but the command doesn't do anything. So I'm totally froze up. Must be a corrupt file or something. I always have to manually push in the power button to shut things down.
Can I re-install Ubuntu without re-installing Windows? Whats the best way to go about re-installing Ubuntu? When they come out with new versions of Ubuntu do they provide any kind of step by step guide for a newbie?

Do you have an integrated intel graphics card? X freezing is a common problem in 9.04 with intel cards.

For the other part of your question, the installation procedure has basically been the same for a while.

Ubuntu Freezing up
Thanks for the help. Yeah, I have the integrated Intel video card. That must be the problem. Strange thing is that I've been ok for 3 months and all of a sudden now I am having the problem. Can't wait for Karmic Koala hopefully that will solve my problems.

The intel graphics issue is supposed to be much improved in Karmic Koala.

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
