    External or Surround Speakers connected to Laptop not working



    Im using Ubuntu 9.04 in my acer aspire 6930 laptop. Inbuilt speakers in my laptop is working, however the external or surround speaker system say 2.1 connected to my laptop is not working.. i just want to know possible solutions for this challenge..

    There should be a switch for external sound that you have to press. Click on the volume button and then click volume control. Then click preferences. Somewhere under switches there should be an external sound thing, checking this only ADDS it to the volume control. After you add it, then you need to go to the switches/options tab and select it.

    THAT is what I was thinking of. It's like "jack" something or other. Unfortunately, I don't have my Linux laptop up and running right now (Karmic tomorrow!) so I can't look at it directly.

    jack is something else entirely

    it is called external amplifier
