can't boot at all
hey lads and lassies,
I just installed Ubuntu 9.1 and it installed great. I put it on a partitioned part of my harddrive(this was directly after a full format) and tried to dual boot with vista 32bit.
The problem is that it goes to grub, it says this:
GRUB loading.
error: out of disk
grub rescue>
I have tried a list of commands that i have found all over the place, but always get unknown commands. When i installed Ubuntu, I put it in a partition of about 60 gigs.
I'm using vista 32 bit, toshiba 1.9 turion64x2, 4 gigs ram
Thanks!!

Hi and Welcome !
When you install Windows OS after Linux, it doesn't work fine in a few machines. Boot up from Ubuntu LiveCD, open Terminal and execute this
Post output here.Code:sudo fdisk -l
* Its small L in fdisk -l.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

they way it sounds is that you installed ubuntu first then isntall vista. You should have done it the otherway around install vista then put ubuntu then install it like that. Ubuntu has a Side by Side installation method so it preserves the vista installation. the way you did it windows deleted the grub and cant find the installation

Theres a CD that can fix this for you. You burn it just like you did ubuntu.
It can be downloaded from here: Super Grub Disk Homepage

In most cases, Users create Logical Partition and install Windows OS there only. SuperGRUB CD will re-install GRUB but if Thread Starter has installed Windows OS after Linux, Windows OS will not work.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
