BOINC in Debian/Ubuntu Repos outdated

It's going to be almost a year for BOINC not being updated in the Debian/Ubuntu Repos. The current version is 6.6.41, while the one in the repos is 6.4.5, which became old in december 4 2008. There is even a dev version (6.10.17) which should become stable soon enough, but even like that it is unconceivable that this old version has not been replaced in the repos. The biggest problem is that 6.4.5 doesn't have support for video card crunching.... which means you will crunch 10 times slower. I waited three months without crunching with gfx card in the hopes that they updated the repos with the coming of Karmic... however my hopes have been crushed and my time wasted. Who is the responsible (who is actually an irresponsible) for updating the repos? How can we make them update the repos? Any help is appreciated.

    Regards

Good question! i'd like to see this updated as well. I believe, for Ubuntu at least, you can submit a [needs-packagin] bug report on launchpad. Link it once you do and i'll confirm it!

If you want more current software then use a more current distro. The ubuntu developers don't just not upgrade packages for no reason. Think about how ubuntu is built, they took a snapshot 6+ months ago and began to stabilize it. 6 months ago was very close to when you say this version became old.

Ok, I will. I posted a question in launchpad some days ago, but I can convert it to bug report IIRC. Thanks for the support, thats the most we need to wake the irresponsable people up.

You've got a pretty damn good point, TONS of other software are damned old and outdated. However, I am already at home with Ubuntu, had it since gutsy or feisty (long ago, I don't even remember which :P), and so I will not switch OS just because of a f****** application. Thanks for the advice though.

Somebody already URL="https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/boinc/+question/87411"]answered my question here. He says that the 6.4 version is stuck in debian, therefore Ubuntu is as well. I just can't believe this, just read his answer "There's also a request to update the package in Ubuntu (bug URL="https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/boinc/+bug/452213"]452213), but the package is community-supported, so it might take a while until someone jumps in and does it."

How can this be? Maybe the Enduring Roadblocks to Linux Acceptance article explains it.
