Question Installation problems: Frozen login screen

So I am trying to change over my computer from Windows XP to Ubuntu (Jaunty Jantelope). The normal install did not work so I used the alternative install, wiped the hard drive of windows forever, and installed Ubuntu. However when it loads the login screen is frozen and the keyboard and mouse won't work (I've tried both normal and USB keyboards and mice). The computer is for sure able to handle Ubuntu, so I don't know what the issue is.

    Thanks in advance

At the grub sceen, press ESC, and add xforcevesa to the boot line. Does it still freeze?
