    karmic upgrade need help

Ok I tried up grading Karmic last night when my computer mouse froze. I decided to down grade to Heron with a disk I had at the house. The downgrade worked, kind of my, mouse works but know I cannot log in. I tried the recovery password protocol and i get the following message: unknown user.

Is there anyone to recovery the password

    if not

How do I get a fresh or clean down load of Ubuntu

Any suggestions on how to fix it or get the system to work even if I have to lose everything that is on the computer?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Did you upgrade from Hardy Heron? That's a rather large jump - upgrades are intended to be from one release to the next.

If you have your Heron disc I would suggest installing that cleanly so that you can download the full Karmic Koala release and do the same from that. You can use the live mode to back up your data to external disc or CD/DVD, you may even be able to download the Karmic disc while running a Hardy live session straight from the disc.

Thanks for the reply. yes I down graded for karmic because it would not work. The mouse froze on me and It said things not mounted when I was in the root. I figured I could down grade and then upgrade to the one before karmic.

So when you installed Karmic that wasn't a clean install, right? It's often worth the clean install, some people experience trouble with upgrades.

    Thumbs up

It was not a clean install. I used the feature that imported Karmic on to my heron up load, so I guess I am dual booting if I did it correctly It looks like I have both systems on my computer now: Heron and Karmic, Heron works but I had forgotten what a pan it was to get the drivers to work for my wireless.

Thanks for your help. Now on to the next problem wireless connection
