the wireless button doesn`t turn on at startup

    Hello all!

I have an annoying problem with the wireless button from my CQ61-125EQ laptop. I am using Ubuntu 9.10 and the wireless is working well but there is something wrong with the button: the wireless LED will be always orange/red does not turn blue (With Vista when driver loaded will turn blue)

When the system starts it start with the wireless button orange/red and the wireless is connected. If i press the button to make it blue the wireless is still working (which should be) and if a press again to make it orange/red the wireless stop (which is good).

This is annoying that every time i have to press the button to be blue to know my wireless is working.

Is there something i can do when the kernel module is loaded to make the wireless button blue?

    My wireless card:
    Code:
02:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Atheros Communications Inc. AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter [168c:001c] (rev 01)
    	Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:137b]
Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx-
    	Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- INTx-
Latency: 0, Cache Line Size: 64 bytes
Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 16
    	Region 0: Memory at d6000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K]
    	Capabilities: <access denied>
    	Kernel driver in use: ath5k
    	Kernel modules: ath5k
and here is the dmesg code when press the wifi button (which it make blue)
    Code:
    [ 2920.016339] wlan0: authenticate with AP 00:24:8c:6b:c9:23
    [ 2920.018171] wlan0: authenticated
    [ 2920.018175] wlan0: associate with AP 00:24:8c:6b:c9:23
    [ 2920.022752] wlan0: RX ReassocResp from 00:24:8c:6b:c9:23 (capab=0x411 status=0 aid=1)
    [ 2920.022756] wlan0: associated
and when press again to make it orange/red
    Code:
    [ 3025.664052] wlan0: no probe response from AP 00:24:8c:6b:c9:23 - disassociating
The thing is when it is disconnected i have to connect manually

I hope you get the ideea...and sorry for my english!

I am using Ubuntu on both an Acer and Sony Vaio and the wireless button seems not working. I figured this should be due to the fact that most computer are built for windows

anyway, a normal network manager (like the default you have in Ubuntu) should allow you to activate the wireless from the icon shown on your toolbar. Go to the computer icon (the one showing if you are online) and right click, you will see

    enable networking
    enable wireless

for a LAN connection, you need only the first to be on, for wireless both

If you switch it from there, it remains on until you undo the operation
