Sound card broke a day after installing karmic - all indications show that sound work

I have a Lenovo Y410 with an Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller. I installed Karmic onto this laptop two days ago, with sound working perfectly. But today it decided to stop working. I have not done any sound configurations or messed with the default. The hardware has disappeared from the Sound Preferences, although I can still find the card listed when I type aplay -l.

    Code:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC262 Analog [ALC262 Analog]
      Subdevices: 1/1
      Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 1: ALC262 Digital [ALC262 Digital]
      Subdevices: 1/1
      Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 6: Si3054 Modem [Si3054 Modem]
      Subdevices: 0/1
      Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
All implications show that the sound works. Ubuntu seems to believe that sound works. I don't have access yet to the live CD, but I will try it again to see if the live CD sound still works.

I have purged and re-installed linux-sound-base, alsa-base, and alsa-utils but that doesn't seem to do any good.

I can dual boot Vista and the sound seems to work perfectly there. Any help at all is appreciated.
