    [SOLVED] MP3 player not displayed

Just up-graded to 9.10 from 9.04. I used to plug my USB - Sansa Clip MP3 player in and it would immediately show on the desktop. Very easy to add songs. Now, in 9.10, it is not displayed. It does connect, and I can see it as a device in Rhythm Box player, where I can add songs. But it was much easier when shown on the desktop.

I have formatted the player and updated it's firmware but still no go. Any suggestions?

    Thank you,

...this is strange, might be a bug (or maybe a feature they implemented...not sure what the reasoning would be though)

Plug-in Player and execute this in Terminal
    Code:
    tail -s 3 -f /var/log/messages
    Post output here.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

It is my understanding that this device has two modes on it. Check within the players own settings. I think it's MTP and UMS mode, but I might be mistaken. What you need to do is go into the settings and switch from the default mode to the other one which should allow it to be detected. Apologies for the vague description, I just remember this coming up here before.

It's an MTP device, no option to change. As MTP it is recognized by Rhytmbox. Never had any problem with previous Ubuntu releases. I'm not a Linux Guru but the code Devil's Casper asked me to share seems to indicate a bug.

    Thanks BigTom,
I did investigate the MSC/MTP issue. Sansa Clip had come with 'Auto' defaulted. I set Clip to MTP and the player is recognized. If I set it to MSC it is recognized as a drive. I guess it's best to not use the Auto setting. There is lots of info available about using MTP vs MSC. Before 9.10 I had never had this issue come up.

    Thanks again,
