poor quality video streaming in ubuntu
despite my high speed comcast cable, my streaming video is choppy and unreliable. sometimes i have to reload my page in firefox several times before a youtube video will play.
i have a dual-core athlon64 4200 with 2 gigs of ram and a geforce 8600 pci-e ... my system is dual-boot with xp pro and i do not have these problems in xp.
do i need some plugins or something?

Have you installed Graphics Card driver? Is display working fine?

It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Go to
System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers
It will show you if there are any drivers you can install. And it will let you install them.

it says that my nvidia accelerated graphics driver (latest cards) is enabled and in use.
i feel like this is a problem in firefox because i can watch dvd video just fine as well as mpegs off my hd.

SPEEDTEST.NET watch a youtube video and if its choppy go check your speed on speedtest

Which version of Ubuntu are you using?
Flash is often problematic and it likely has little to do with Firefox or with your video card. Adobe doesn't give a lot of love to linux, and linux devs can't do much because the program is closed source.
But, changing some firefox defaults might help.

Upgrading your nvidia drivers might help as well.
