Thread starter is backing up files in other Harddisk having NTFS partition. I don't think it Windows OS problem. He was able to create file in Linux and access it through Windows OS.
Illegal file name could be the reason but "location is not available The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect..." errors suggest that wrong mount command or corrupt volume could be the problem.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
