Question on Mint 7 dual boot

I recently bought a netbook with xp installed on it and soon decided to dual boot Mint and xp but just got around to it. I am having some questions about the partitioning in the installer. I have seen a lot of guides online but none of the installer menus look quite like mine. Do I choose "install them side by side, choosing between them each startup" or "specify partitions manually". I appreciate any and all help, thanks!

    Hello and Welcome.
Choose to install side by side. Linux Mint should automagically detect Windows and install the bootloader for you.

It gave me this error: "An error occurred while writing the changes to the storage devices. The resize operation has been aborted."
Does this mean I will have to change the partitions manually?

At what point in the installation did this happen? I would defragment windows and try to shrink the windows partition from windows. Before you begin the installation of Mint, run the command "sudo fdisk -l" to get your partition information so you know where Mint sees your windows partition.

Lets check partition structure of your Hard disk. Boot up from Mint CD and execute sudo fdisk -l command. Post output here.
    Code:
    sudo fdisk -l
    ^ Its small L in fdisk -l.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
