    URGENT major upgrade bugs

    hello,
    i'm starting with linux.
    i'm using ubuntu.
the computer offered me to install the last version (9.10, is it), which i did.
    then i rebooted.
after this, the touchpad didn't work anymore.
i rebooted, and now, i can't even log in (it says the password is incorrect).

i need a FAST answer please, because i'm using a neighboor's computer, as mine is blocked at the login page (i don't even know how to make it stop without unpluging the plug).

i hope this forum will be able to help me, it's the second one i'm trying.

What's weird is that, when i start the computer, it says "boot on ubuntu 9.04".
Do you think this has anything to do with my problem?
if yes, how to solve it?

can this have anything to do with the bios or something like that?
(like: the bios still thinks it's 9.04, and tries to load some files that don't exist anymore?)

    Talking Install a fresh copy

I guess a fresh installation is the only remedy. Boot from the live cd of Ubuntu 9.10. Back up ur data. And then go for a fresh installation.
Upgradation to 9.10 is giving grub2 nightmares to many.
You can download the live cd from ubuntu.com
