Help! Resolution and Wireless Issues on Xubuntu

I am a brand new Linux user, and I decided to try out Xubuntu on my old Gateway MX3215. So far it's great, except for two major problems.

1st-- It does not see my wireless internet. At all. I tried going to applications-->add/remove-->windows wireless drivers/ndiswrapper and it tells me that they cannot be installed on my computer.

2nd-- The resolution is too big for my screen. It defaults to the maximum but it should be 1280x768. I thought there was a selection for this, but when I clicked it it turned everything to pixel salad, and I still haven't managed to get the screen back. I tried this first:

    press: alt+f2
    type: gksudo mousepad /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    add to the screen section:

    Code:
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Default Screen"
    Monitor "Configured Monitor"
    SubSection "Display"
    Modes "1024x768"
    EndSubSection
    EndSectionlog out & back in

But it crashed my system and I had to reinstall. Apparently the resolution and the internet are known problems with the mx3215 and ubuntu, but people have gotten it to work. I'm about to give up and try a different distro, but I do like Xubuntu and I would rather just get it fixed. Can anyone help??

    Howdy. We need more info.

    For wireless, read this.

The commands listed in that sticky will show us more info on your graphics card as well.
