    CDROM Bios troubles (hardware)

I got an old computer like most here, my problem is that it came with a CDROM not a DVDROM. So I changed it, when I want to do a fresh install (boot) it wont work. Windows/Ubuntu has no problem with the DVD it works fine, my old CDROM I still have boots fine XP only, well I guess XP is on a CD not DVD don't know.
So I'm thinking bois it says APT CDROM (no DVD) but has the correct dvd model listed.
Could it be the Bios can only recognize a cd and not a dvd?.
Just did a bios update still no good, can I buy a better bios or find a patch?

    Tnx
    Peter

If the computer will boot from the install CD, but not from a DVD,
get and burn the ISOs for CD install and use that method. Once the
operating system is up and running it will be able to use the DVD drive.

OK I think what your saying is burn the OS to CD not DVD I could try that but the OS won't fit on CD's anymore.

Isn't there an alternative on multiple CDs? Another possibility,
is there a way to launch the installer from a running OS?
If your old OS recognizes the DVD, put it in and check if there
is a script to launch an install that way, without booting the disk.
