Exclamation [SOLVED] Ubuntu 9.10 filesystem fail

I start up my Ubuntu Netbook Remix on my Acer Aspire One Netbook after it froze, and I get the following message:
    Mount of filesystem failed.
A maintenance shell will now be started.
CONTROL-D will terminate this shell and re-try.
    root Jordan-Acer: _

What on earth do I do? I do not have my Ubuntu USB disk bootup with me.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, but please explain in detail every step, since I know next to nothing about Sudo or Coding.

When the system failed it left the file system in an unusable/unstable state. When it boots into the maintenance shell you should be able to run fsck on the file system to fix it. One in the maintenance shell, run the command "fdisk -l" and post the output here. We will then tell you which partitions you need to run fsck against to recover them.
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

I fixed it, actually, but I forgot to bookmark this page and so couldn't post that I had until now. All I did was type in "fsck" and keep pressing "y" (after reading what the prompt was).
I hope what I did wasn't too dangerous to my computer. :\
