    great firewall

Since moving to China I haven't been able to properly install new programs through the Terminal, common error messages read "IP not found" or "unable to download", I figure access to the multiverse in the US is being blocked. Ideas on how to get around it? At present I'm trying to download transcode to rip DVD audio in mp3 files, still no luck. Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure you can find out through Google whether China's great firewall is blocking Ubuntu repositories. Oh wait. You can't, because Google is cooperating with China's government on censorship. Maybe you can set up a ssh tunnel to a server outside China and access the internet through there?
OS's I use: Debian testing, Debian stable, Ubuntu, Windows XP, Windows Vista
