    Post possible solution

my suggestion would be to go to Dell support online.
click around until you locate downloads or support.
also you could type in your Dell model in the search field which should point you to the driver(s) you may need to allow sound to work on your computer in windows.

The sound should just work on ubuntu, you shouldn't need to do anything. What version of ubuntu are you using? The latest versions usually have the best hardware support. If you open a terminal and type in aplay -l you can see if any sound cards were detected. If they were, then most likely you have some volume settings incorrect.

Your audio card is detected and usable by your user, so this means your volume settings are most likely incorrect. You will have to change them with alsamixer or one of the other GUI tools.

if you are using regular ubuntu (gnome) just right click the volume icon in the top right corner and click open volume control, make sure PCM and master are unmuted and turned up enough
