Can't Change Setup to read cdrom first

    Hi all,
I'm running ubuntu 9.1 on my acer aspire in linux and have just bought a cdrom drive for it. I have pressed f12 on start up to change the boot up from internal to the cd drive but it doesn't seem to change from internal.I have also tried with usb stick for something else and it ignored it too.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks
    George

I own a Acer Aspire One. Which key do you press to change boot order.

On my Acer Aspire One F12 is the key I use to change boot order.

Mine is a 160 gig Hardrive. N270 Intel Atom.

Booting from USB is probably not enabled in the BIOS. You need to boot into the BIOS and make sure that the USB port is in the boot device list, adding it if necessary. Then F12 should give you the option to boot from a USB drive if one is connected when you turn the system on.

Usually it is either by pressing F2 or Esc when you turn the computer on. F2 seems to be the most popular key these days, just like F12 is for bringing up the boot device menu.

I assume you have the USB drive plugged in when you start the computer? Do you do a cold, or warm boot (power off vs. system restart command)? Also, are you sure the attached USB device is bootable?

As Rubberman says. You need to plug in USB and start out cold to boot pen drive. That being said it sounds like you might either have a pendrive that is nonbootable (it happens) or you made the bootiable live iso pendrive wrong.

Doh, just realised you said cdrom usb. Are you familiar making bootable live iso cds?
