Unhappy HELP!! Grub rescue mode- can't boot windows

I am wondering whether anyone could help me.

I have received a netbook as present. Sony P688E. Has no DVD drive. Came with Windows Vista. It was so very slow so I decide to install Ubuntu. But it is still very slow. So I decide to use Windows Recovery Console to restore to original factory status so I can return it.

NOW....... after i ran the Windows Recovery Console, the computer restart and can not boot!!

    GRUB loading.
    error: no such partition
    grub rescue>

Could some one help me to resolve this? I need to at least be able to boot Windows otherwise I could not return the computer.

You installed ubuntu over vista or dual booted it? Do yo have external cd/dvd drive? If yes, boot up with ubuntu live cd, open a terminal (Under Applications) and post the output of
    Code:
    sudo fdisk -l

You deleted the partition. When Sony sold you the computer, the partition covered 100% of the HDD. When you put Linux on it, you deleted the entire partition.

Ubuntu tends to have a lot going on in the background, I would suggest using Fedora Core instead.

A lot of newer OEM windows computers have a Recovery Partition but need to have an Recovery CD created to access it to restore to the original setup. Not familiar with your particular computer so I'm not sure about this.

The message you are getting would indicate your recovery of vista was not successful as it would overwrite the master boot record. Since you are getting a Grub error on boot, obviously Grub is still in the mbr.

As asked above, how did you do this? Did you just install Ubuntu without regard to partitioning? possibly overwriting vista files or did you create a separate partition for Ubuntu to dual boot? If you still have your Ubuntu CD, you should post the output of the command fdisk -l suggested above. Without answers to these questions, there is not much anyone can do to help...except guess.
