Do I need HD controller drivers to install?
I have a friend who gave me his PC to look at for him because of spyware and virus issues. I was going to do a clean XP install but can't do it because he does not have the driver disk for the giga raid HD controller. Hence windows cannot "see" the hard drive. I am thinking of giving Ubuntu a shot. Will I have the same issue not having the driver or will Ubuntu install OK?
Thanks,
Brian

I've never done a raid setup under linux myself, but I'm pretty sure it should work and the linux kernel will have what you need. Check the following ubuntu wiki pages for some info on getting it all working:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Raid
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FakeRaidHowto
Hopefully one or both will give some idea on how to proceed, and maybe someone that already has a raid setup under ubuntu will post with more info.
Good luck with it!

Thanks for the reply. I installed it and everything went well. No issues "seeing' the HD. The only problem I have had is installing the update nvidea graphics driver. The install keeps failing halfway thru.
