    Ubuntu-9.10 in USB stick

    Hey,

I wanted to install Ubuntu-9.10 in my laptop, currently which has both windows and ubuntu-9.04. I'm trying to make it fully into linux box.

I downloaded ubuntu-9.10 from ubuntu site and with 3rd party software( sorry forgot the name ) copied the ubuntu folder to the usb stick.

Once I open my stick it shows install ubuntu display, once I'm in , I'm struck how to go for install.

Now how do I install ubuntu-9.10 from my usb stick to convert my laptop to linux wholly.

    Any help would be great!

I've never done it, but you can check this HowTo for some tips that might get you up and running:

    Hope it helps.

Oh I was looking into that.

I went for USB option coz my CD thing is not working. When I tried to copy the ISO image to CD with infra recorder software, though I go for burn CD image option, on the whole after uploading the iso image the remaining options remain disabled.

So I'm not able to burn the CD. Is there any other software to burn the image to CD and go for boot to install Ubuntu-9.10 wholly.

You should be able to use a program called unetbootin to create a USB stick installer for ubuntu. Then just reboot your computer with the USB stick in and make sure BIOS is set to boot from USB first and the install should run.

    Hey,

I used exactly the same unetbootin to copy to the USB stick.

Proably I didn't know how to do the 2nd step i.e. reboot your computer with the USB stick in and make sure BIOS is set to boot from USB first and the install should run.

Can you just tell me how to?

On the bootup screen when you first turn it on it should say something like press F2, or ESC or something. That key when pressed will get you into bios. Without knowing what brand, model number and bios make (version number also) it will be hard to show you how to manuver to where you can change boot order in your bios. You might figure it out though once you get into bios and look around a little. Good luck with it.
