    Can you please give the context?

    Ofcourse, it means that the MBR has gone bad. But what caused it. Were you trying to dual boot? Did you unwittingly erase root partition? More information the better.

    If you have installed Ubuntu already but for some reason the grub in MBR has gone bad, you can reinstall grub to MBR. Boot with Ubuntu Live CD.
    Code:
    sudo fdisk -l
    post the output here.

    Hi and Welcome !

    Boot up from Ubuntu LiveCD, open Terminal and execute this
    Code:
    sudo fdisk -l
    * Its small L in fdisk -l.

    Post output here.

    We need a little more info. Is it a fresh installation? Did Ubuntu ever boot up fine after installation? From where did you get Ubuntu Installation CD/DVD?
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
