Unusable Disk
Hi,
I hv recently installed Windows 7. and also want to install Ubuntu 9.10. I have created only two partitions for Windows and left some free space for Ubuntu installation. Now when I tried to install Ubuntu on that space it is being showed as unusable. I am not being able to create even a single drive( neither root or swap). Any ideas How to use that space?
Thanks for help in advance

How many partitions are defined?
Boot up as a Live CD, then open a terminal window and show the output of
fdisk -l (FDISK -L in lower case).
Thanks.

HI,
There are (4+1) partitions. The first four are Window partitions which are of ntfs format. The fifth partition is being shown as unusable. This is the partition i want to use to install ubuntu.
Thanks

You have created 4 Primary partitions already and its not possible to create another. Unusable space is free space which you can merge in the partition adjacent to it.
If its possible, backup data of last partition and delete it. Create an Extended Partition and use all the free space. You can create around 64 Logical partitions inside an Extended Partition.
I would suggest you to post the output of fdisk -l command here. Let us check partition structure of your hard disk first. It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
