Dumping XP to install ubuntu
Good day, I need to remove Windows XP from my computer (I use Ubuntu 9), however, I can not load Grub or Live, my BIOS does not accept CD boot...
also, I tried the fdisk-l, but this is what it gives me:
Disk /dev/sda: 160.0 GB, 160041885696 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x35b035b0
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 19456 156280288+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
For some reason it does not list operational systems.
I tried reinstalling Ubuntu over the xp from boot cd, but it does not load from boot.
Thanks for your advice.

Hello & Welcome to the forums!
I also am trying to learn linux myself but if I may ask? Have you tried checking BIOS settings to boot from CD? Some computer requires you to press F2, F12, or Del buttons to change boot priority to CD drive first. If you are able to, you can then set-up your system to run on Ubuntu. If that's what you desire.
Hope you succeed!

What's the make of your computer ? Specifically the Motherboard.
Try pressing the delete button (NOT del) immediately after you switch the machine on... and keep pressing it until you fill the buffer (you wont miss the chance that way !!)
