    [SOLVED] No Audio Unbuntu 9.10 64-bit

    I got a new laptop for Yule. It's an HP Pavilion dv6. AMD Turion II Ultra Dual Core Mobile Processor M640 2.6GHz. I didn't realise that it was a 64 bit system at first and tried installing 32 bit ubuntu with all kinds of problems. And I also accidentally wiped Win 7 from the HD while trying to install a dual boot. (Yes I know, epic fail, insert point and laugh here) Plus they don't give you copies of the Win 7 discs. I did create recovery discs, but I don't think they work when Windoze no longer exists on the drive at all... true? So I'm running 64-bit Koala now.

    Anyway, I have no sound at the moment whatsoever. I've followed a few troubleshooting guides and have installed some codecs, but so far no luck. No system sounds, no headphone sound, no speaker sounds.

    My faders are up, and nothing is muted.

    Here are some of the How-Tos I've followed:

    Install Mplayer and Multimedia Codecs (libdvdcss2,w32codecs,w64codecs) in Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty)|Ubuntu Geek

    But I can't seem to find the part where my codec matches up with my soundcard. I'm stuck at this point.

    Also I've noticed that my driver, library and utilities version all differ after attempting to upgrade my ALSA drivers to 1.0.21 using the following guide:

    Upgrade Alsa (1.0.21) on Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10 | To a free world


    The differences are:

    Or you can post the output of the command:
    cat /proc/asound/card*/codec\#*|grep -i codec

    It seems that the chipset has some problems with drivers, and you'll have to tune it manually. But let's see first what codec is used.
    OK. I see this is IDT 92HD75B3X5. Now this looks to be of help:

    Ok, so I installed the Kernel v2.6.33 but was unable to boot from it. The first error I noticed was

    No compatible bridge window for [mem (bunch of hex here)]

    Then the next thing was:

    [41.611376] fixing recursive fault but reboot is needed!

    here the computer froze and the caps lock light was flashing. So I rebooted.

    Everytime I rebooted from then on the computer would freeze just before or at the login screen and the caps lock light would flash.

    installing linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic and rebooting fixed the problem.

    I had installed some other backports modules, but apparently I missed this one
