cannot boot ubuntu from CD-r/rw
I am rather new to Ubuntu but have been able to boot from cdrom on this PC before, and have it run " under Windows XP Home". Due to age of PC Ubuntu ran in a degraded mode. That was 2 years ago and The Verion was not 9.04. I tried to install Ubuntu 9.04 on this PC again (Dell Dimension 2400) and do not have enough space. I get a message that Windows XP will be wiped. My friend built me a PC with Windows XP Pro. It has plenty of space. When I put the DVD 9.04 v. that came with my Beginning Ubuntu Linux book, I get to a point where I see message: "BOOT FROM CD?DVD. I hit a lot of keys but nothing happens and Windows starts up. The device I am trying to boot from is a Model GCE-85208 year 2003. Please can anyone offer some suggestions? I am guite the novice at best.
Sincerely,
Steven Byerly

Hi and Welcome !
It looks like Installation DVD is faulty. Have you tested same DVD in other machine?
Does Machine boot up from Windows OS Installation CD?It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
