Can I borrow your smb.conf? (for connecting Ubunto to WinXP network)

I've been trying, for days, to connect my Ubuntu laptop to my WinXP network. I can connect to the internet via my router, I can even ping my WinXP PC, but I can't connect to the drive or shared files. I think I may have screwed up the smb.conf file. What's more, since I'm new, as of this week, to Linux, I'm quite likely to screw it up again. So does anyone out there have an smb.conf file configured for connecting to a Windows XP PC? Can you paste it here? It might help.

    Thanks,

    Jesse

Why don't you post your smb.conf contents here and we'll help sort it out.

smb.conf is for sharing files from your machine, from what i have read, you want to connect to another machine, you don't need to touch that file for this use case

I think nautilus has built in samba stuff that lets you do what you want. You may have to install the package, i'm not sure what it would be called on ubuntu, on arch it is nautilus-share then you should be able to just connect. Also I think you can connect under the places dropdown menu.
