[SOLVED] you do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents of "My_Folder

In trying to install an update, I deleted all the programs from my Ubuntu 9.10. Now I can not get my pictures, documents and music from the computer. I tried booting from a Ubuntu Live CD but when I get to the folder of my documents it says "you do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents of "My_Folder"". I tired the nautilus command but that only lets me view the files and not copy them.

Help me for my years worth of work is on line here.

you should use terminal and use sudo command to copy files, because the livecd user won't have access to them othewise

    Hi and Welcome !

    Press Alt+F2 and type this
    Code:
    gksu nautilus
It will open Nautilus with root privileges. Navigate to My_Folder in Nautilus.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    It did it

    Thanks y'all.

I for some odd reason could not copy and paste after using the "gksu nautilius" command.

    Now I can.

    Thanks again.
