[SOLVED] kernel versions
hello guys

using the update maneger to update on ubuntu new linux images available 2.6.31-17 generic and after the download is complete both images exist in the grub menu should i remove them ? or just remove them from the boot menu ? and if so how could i do each

It's not a bad idea to have the old kernel available as a fallback, in case something gets screwed up with the newer kernel.

If new kernel version is working fine and then there is no need to keep earlier version. Newer kernel versions work fine most the time but use it for a while to make sure that everything is ok.
You can un-install earlier version through Synaptic only. Search earlier version through search box in Synaptic and mark it for removal.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

There's another way to remove kernels without synaptic, although using synaptic is much easier. Here's a link to a tutorial:

But I agree with Reed. I like to have some extra kernels available just in case.
