Is it possible to customize keyboard layout (replace <del> and <ins>)?

Does anyone knows of a way to customize keyboard layout? My laptop has a <del> key just by where <right alt> is, and the latter is being used extensively in polish layout. I would like to turn the original <ins> into <del> and vice versa, for example.
    Thanks!

Should be possible by altering the LANG Environment Variable.
However you will need to create an own "language" for it and I am not sure if all keys can be changed by that.

I understand I should create my own keyboard layout (say, pl-modified), and then switch the system to use it (instead of plain pl). Now, the question is - are there eny (preferably simple - i just want less misstaken keystrikes ) tools for doing that?

You don't have to go to that length. I remember seeing the technique needed to do this in refernce to disabling the caps lock key -- a command called xmodmap. I've never actually applied this myself, but google is your friend if man isn't

That seems to be the thing. Thank you! I'll post the results here for future reference if I succeed.
