another karmic wifi issue *different*
hey guys
finally took the plunge and upgraded my ubuntu studio to karmic from jaunty. i seem to be experiencing a problem many have, being that my wifi card (edimax something or other, recognised by the system as Ralink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI) which worked on my previous distro is now not working at all. ive done a lot of research and found the problem seems to mainly be with broadcom cards, and have tried a number of things relating to those that have worked for others, with no luck.
my problem seems to be not that the drivers wont activate or anything like that, my problem is that under hardware drivers NOTHING appears at all. i have no drivers present, where most people are talking of 3. i have not found anyone else with this problem.
no network icon at all, no LED flashes from PCI, just nothing at all. my previous distro accpeted it no problem, no install, no configuration, plugged it in and recognized and worked from the outset.
my problem is compounded in addition by not being about to use a wire connection at all.
i have downloaded appropriate driver from internet and put on the karmic machine with usb flash drive, but when i open the configure shell script it flashes up for maybe half a second and disappears again. FRUSTRATING!
any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello. Please read the wireless setup sticky. This will give us more information to work with.
Include the whole output of dmesg. It's long, so make sure to use code tags as mentioned in the sticky.

hi
thanks for the reply
dmesg shows the following (but would not let me see all of the output)
hopefully this is relevant. also, my kernel version is 2.6.31-9-rt.Code:[ 0.147245] ACPI: PCI Interrupt Routing Table [\_SB_.PCI0.BR14._PRT] [ 0.164360] ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKA] (IRQs 16 17 18 19) *0, disabled. Heya Jay,
On my new Ubuntu install, I was unable to use my wireless network adapter until I updated everything. Connect using a wired connection, update via the package manager and see if your adapter shows up afterwards. It saves A BUNCH of unnecessary troubleshooting if it does.Aloof linux user #whatever.
I tested off the charts for MENSA. Unfortunately, it was off the wrong end of the chart.
