Installing WoW
Ok, out of all the problems I've had in the past, this is the big one. The one I can't figure out.
I have downloaded WINE and I have downloaded the WoW install.exe file and all goes good during installation (after i simply double clicked the install.exe file) but about half way through I got an error message that "installer is unable to read file C:/commen files/world of warcraft. I tried teh same thing on Z: and it did the same thing. What can I do to fix this or how else can i download/install WoW?
btw, i'm not running windows and linux, just straight up Ubuntu, nothing else, just thatLast edited by ForgottenBassist; 01-12-2010 at 04:40 PM. Reason: forgot important info

I would go to WineHQ - Wine Application Database and look at the page for wow and see if anyone else has encountered this. I never had many problems with wow on linux.

OK, so I've got WoW installed, but now, when I try and play it, the fps is really low, like it's lagging really bad. The sound plays just fine, it's just the graphics.
I don't have a graphic card, just the on-board graphics.
can anyone help with THIS?

make sure you are using the correct driver for your graphics card, and make sure you use opengl graphics in wow instead of dx

i saw a video once on youtube.com/linuxjournalonline about a program that uses wine technology to prace advance windows games in linux, you might wanna also try virtualbox

virtualization is not meant for gaming, it will not play at an acceptable level
what is your graphics card?
Code:lspci | grep VGA

The output for my card is:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
I also had a problem with linux and had to reformat my hard drive from the live disk and got everything set back up. but NOW when i try to launch he game i get an error:
[/home/kyo/My Documents/World of Warcraft/Launcher.exe]
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
note: /home/kyo/My Documents/World of Warcraft/Launcher.exe may be a plain executable, not an archive
zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /home/kyo/My Documents/World of Warcraft/Launcher.exe or
/home/kyo/My Documents/World of Warcraft/Launcher.exe.zip, and cannot find /home/kyo/My Documents/World of Warcraft/Launcher.exe.ZIP, period.
NOW what do i do?

did you have a separate /home directory?
intel graphics chipset has had many issues with current kernels, it is possibly adequate, but depending on your motherboard you could get a cheap nvidia or ati graphics card that will work much better and give you a serious performance increase
