Unhappy HELP WITH WINE!!! (need itunes)

hi, so im trying to install itunes on my linux system. ive already installed wine, but when i try and open ANY of the files in the windows folder i get this error message

    [/home/austine/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/iTunes8Setup.exe]
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /home/austine/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/iTunes8Setup.exe or
/home/austine/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/iTunes8Setup.exe.zip, and cannot find /home/austine/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/iTunes8Setup.exe.ZIP, period.

i would appreciate any information regarding how i can properly install itunes and be able to OPEN it in wine... or any other way u can think of. i just got a new pretty pink ipod over the holidays and its pretty much obsolete lol PLEASE HELP!!!

    Hello and Welcome.
I know Itunes has some stuff you can't get on WINE but just for music, have you tried using Rythmbox or Amarok? Rythmbox will be easiest but I think Amarok has better Ipod support. I'm going to be trying them both myself this evening because we bought our son an Ipod Touch, I'll be looking to see how things go and let you know what I find out.

I had a similar problem yesterday, after you eject the Ipod, make sure you go into the main menu of the Ipod and click on the Music Icon, is your music there?

It's probably a compressed file. Try unzipping it.
You'll need to "cd" to the correct directory....so something like this if the itunes8setup.exe is in the .wine directory.
    Code:
    cd ~/.wine/dosdevices/c\:/windows/
    Code:
    unzip itunes8setup.exe
Or if you have Windows, use Windows to unzip it.

Ok, well apparently it isn't a zip file....and yes, Linux can be a bit daunting for new users. The good news is Itunes does work with Linux but I don't think it will be really easy. If you try this link and scroll down a little bit, it will tell you how to get it working. If you have problems with a specific command or task, then post back here for more help.

It can seem hard but persevere. Do you have a windows disk still, even XP? I found th best solution (for me) was to run XP in VirtualBox and run itunes from there. Worked fine for me. YMMV.
