HELP WITH WINE!!! (need itunes)
hi, so im trying to install itunes on my linux system. ive already installed wine, but when i try and open ANY of the files in the windows folder i get this error message
[/home/austine/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/iTunes8Setup.exe]
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /home/austine/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/iTunes8Setup.exe or
/home/austine/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/iTunes8Setup.exe.zip, and cannot find /home/austine/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/iTunes8Setup.exe.ZIP, period.
i would appreciate any information regarding how i can properly install itunes and be able to OPEN it in wine... or any other way u can think of. i just got a new pretty pink ipod over the holidays and its pretty much obsolete lol PLEASE HELP!!!

Hello and Welcome.
I know Itunes has some stuff you can't get on WINE but just for music, have you tried using Rythmbox or Amarok? Rythmbox will be easiest but I think Amarok has better Ipod support. I'm going to be trying them both myself this evening because we bought our son an Ipod Touch, I'll be looking to see how things go and let you know what I find out.I do not respond to private messages asking for Linux help, Please keep it on the forums only.

It's probably a compressed file. Try unzipping it.
You'll need to "cd" to the correct directory....so something like this if the itunes8setup.exe is in the .wine directory.
Code:cd ~/.wine/dosdevices/c\:/windows/
Or if you have Windows, use Windows to unzip it.Code:unzip itunes8setup.exe

i do not have windows, the only reason i got linux is because my dell crashed with vista and i wanted 2 learn something new. lol linux is not very user friendly.

Ok, well apparently it isn't a zip file....and yes, Linux can be a bit daunting for new users. The good news is Itunes does work with Linux but I don't think it will be really easy. If you try this link and scroll down a little bit, it will tell you how to get it working. If you have problems with a specific command or task, then post back here for more help.
