    Boot Loader Issues

Hey! Ok so a short history:

    -Installed Windows 7
    -Installed Ubuntu
    -Uninstalled Win7/ubuntu
    -Installed Ubuntu with full installation
    -Installed Windows 7 again after

^Both are on the same disk in separate partitions

So now when i boot up, Windows 7 shows up twice as a valid OS, and ubuntu is only shown once, but it doesn't run.

    1. How do i change bootloader to GRUB (or something else if recommended)
    2. How do i delete repeat OS listings from loader
    3. Any ideas why ubuntu isn't loading?

    Thanks
    Carm

Your problem is that you have to install Windoze before Linux. It will happily mung your Linux install. So,

    1. Wipe disc
    2. Install Win7 (has to be before Linux install) - only give it as much disc as you want it to have.
    3. Install Linux
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

It is not strictly necessary to wipe out everything in order to fix this. You can boot from an Ubuntu LiveCD and run some commands to restore GRUB. Unfortunately, it's a bit lower level than most of the Ubuntu setup work.

If you want to take a look, use this guide:
    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Grub2#Recove...20via%20LiveCD

We can obviously help explain anything that you don't fully understand. This basically involves booting off of the LiveCD, chrooting into your existing Ubuntu installation (chroot basically pretends that a certain directory is actually /, and treats the system accordingly), and then rewrites GRUB to the MBR using your existing GRUB configuration file.

    Good luck!

As Rubberman mentioned already, If you install Linux before Windows OS, it doesn't even boot up in most of machines. Windows OS must be installed in first visible Primary Partition.

Which OS is booting up now? Which version of Ubuntu have you installed?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
