Why does Ubuntu still have such a hard time hibernating? I've been running it since 7.04 and never have I had a system that consistently hibernates correctly. With 9.10 it starts to, does the big CPU use to store stuff, then all the sudden it just turns back on....

Mine hibernates and wakes up just fine (9.10 64bit)

Same exact Ubuntu setup, 9.10 64 bit, running on Dell Studio 17....just tried to suspend, screen didn't turn off, couldn't wake it back up, had to force shut it down but the hard drive wasn't spinning so it didn't make the click sound. Hibernate is a no go, fresh install.....

Do some more reading. Hibernation is dependent on HW / driver support.
If you understand driver support in Linux, you can understand why hibernation has issues.

This install has had *several* updates
