    double boot

    Hi
I have an external 4 port usb2 hub with my printer and external HD attached. The first time I boot up the system it never gets attached. ( I can do a lsusb command and the hub does not show) If I then do a sudo reboot it comes back up with the usb hub and HD working. Why does this happen? What changes on boot up the 2nd time? I also would like to fix this but right now I'm simply wondering how this happens. Does udev have something to do with this? Thanks Roger

I think it has something to do with the way you boot. On reboot, not all of the POST is ran and that might mean the OS has to do more work on boot, for example do more work on detecting hardware as the POST might not have done that for it. (POST does hardware detection the OS can read)

You should probably be able to use the hub once you reconnect it during the usage of the system. I think that's easier than rebooting all the time.

By the way, this was only a theory. I don't know enough to be able to say this is what actually happens.

    Thanks
It also woks if I shut down and re-start which to me seems weird since it should follow the same boot sequence. I have tried both unpluging the usb hub and re-plugging it and just starting up the system with the usb hub unplugged, waiting awhile and then plugging it in. Doesn't work. Guess the kernel isn't seeing it. Will keep digging. If you know what is the CLI to view what has been detected by the kernel, other wise I'm sure I can probably find it . Thanks for responding BTW, was beginning to think my questions are stupid...
