Wireless Internet Help
I have recently decided to try Ubuntu to see if I like it before making the switch. I currently run a dual booting system with Vista and Ubuntu 9.10.
I have had wireless internet set up for a while on my laptop, but I do not know how to set it up in Ubuntu. I have looked online in many different places and am only getting more confused. Is there anyone that can help me with this problem?
I already know what wireless card I have if that will help any. It is a Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN Mini-Card. If there is any other information needed then I can get it for you. I am not very familiar with Ubuntu yet, so I may need directions of how to look something up if more information is needed.
Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have the latest Ubuntu here, so I don't know exactly what things are like on the net Karmic, but in the Hardy release, there is a networking icon on the top right of the screen. (1 screen behind another) This icon can be clicked, and both wired as wireless networking configuration is quite easy there.
I've done some reading, and I have reason to assume you first need to enable the proprietary driver (look for Hardware Drivers in the Administration menu, in the System menu).
Hope this works for you.

I can get online using Ubuntu if I actually plug my laptop into the wireless router, yet I am still not sure what to do to gain a wireless connection.

when you click the networking applet, you will find a list of available networks, if the driver has been installed. Select the network you wish to sign in to and give the key when prompted for it. Click Ok, and the connection should be made.

I don't think my driver works with Ubuntu for my wireless card because the connection is not listed.

We'll need more info. Read the wireless setup sticky .
As I recall, the Dell 1395 is a broadcom chipset, but I forget which one. Depending, you will either need to download the firmware for the card
or use the Broadcom wl driver. This should be available through the Hardware Manager thing Ubuntu has. Or doCode:sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter
The wl driver should work with any of these cardsCode:sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source
Check the output of lspci as described in the sticky to see the pciid. (The pciid is this bit: 14e4:432d) If it's not on this list, use the first method.Code:14e4:432b "Broadcom Corporation BCM4322 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller" 14e4:4329 "Broadcom Corporation BCM43XG" 14e4:4328 "Broadcom Corporation BCM4328 802.11a/b/g/n" 14e4:4315 "Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g" 14e4:4313 "Broadcom Corporation BCM4310 Ethernet Controller" 14e4:4312 "Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11a/b/g" 14e4:4311 "Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN" 14e4:432d 14e4:432c 14e4:432a

I ran the program WirelessSetup that was talked about in the sticky. This is the output that I received:

I installed the driver, but I'm not sure exactly what to do next to see if it worked. I apologize for knowing nothing about Ubuntu, I just installed it yesterday and have never used anything except Windows before.

The first thing is to check if the network manager up on the panel is showing any wireless networks. If not what is the output of
and doesCode:iwconfig
return available wireless networks?Code:sudo iwlist eth1 scan
