    Question HDD permissions

    Hey Guys,

I'm having a bit of trouble with my extrenal hard-drive. Here's how it goes:

I click on the HDD in nautilus, and it prompts me for a password. It gives access to the files, but to edit, remove, or add any files, I have to open it as nautilus under root!

How do I change the permissions so I only have to type my password once?
    ~Thanks!

I can be found either 40 miles west of Chicago, or in a galaxy far, far away.

What file system do you have on the external drive?

It should automount unless there is some problem with your system configuration. With an NTFS file system, you usually have to manually mount it, but ext2/ext3 and FAT file systems should mount when they are plugged in. It may take a few seconds for the OS to see it and then mount it. Does your system see and automount FAT formatted USB discs?

My system does auto-mount usb discs, but they're all FAT16.
