Format messup!
Hey guys, I have an ipod shufle 2nd gen, and I have seemed to upset the format. I tried to format it in nautilus, and it gave me the: 'fat 32 format not supported' error.
now ubuntu won't recognize it, and the ipod shuffle is giving me a broken software error. I have a backup of the ipod shuffle, but how do I get ubuntu to recognize it so I can format it properly?
Please help!

Have you check on Apple's support site for formatting tools? And why did you need to format it?

Because now the format is messed up, and linux won't detect the filesystem.
Edit:
Hey! I found it in Palimpsest Disk Utility! It's labeled as Apple ipod 1GB Unrecognized. I have no clue how to do deal with this.
Would I format it to FAT with a Master boot record partition table?
Thanks!Last edited by DaCalebMan; 01-25-2010 at 11:46 PM. Reason: new info

Good questions. I don't know what you would format it to. It could possibly be an apple disc format. Since I don't have one of these puppies, I really don't know for sure. I would suggest checking on some of the ipod forums for more information. Remember, Google is your friend!

I tried MBR partition on a FAT filesystem but it gave me an error saying a could not encode to FAT32. I suppose that's why all usb drives are FAT16. But Palimpsest does not give the option to encode to FAT16. Just FAT.

Plain FAT is FAT-16, though FAT-16 might have some additional stuff to
help with long file names.Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
