black screen after resuming from "suspend"

I have installed Xubuntu 9.10 on an Acer Aspire One 160HDD, 1RAM, 11.6''

If I switch to suspend mode, on resuming it shows a black screen (but it still works for I could ctrl-alt-del and then restart)

I read somewhere it could be a problem with the swap particion, but I have partitioned
    / 10GB
    Swap 2.5 GB
    /home the rest

    Any other suggestions?

    thank you in advance

Suspend, hibernate type stuff can be a bit in the lap of the gods.

It is a faint chance but you might as well try ctrl+alt+F1,F2,....F7.

On my Acer Aspire L100 after suspend it freezes up too. I read somewhere the problem might be due to graphics driver issues but I haven't had time to follow it up. Right now I just have hibernate disabled.

Have you updated the video drivers? You might also try to switch to another console (ctrl-alt-fN where N is the console #) and then back to the one with the GUI on it. That might kick-start the video driver. I'm not sure which console # Ubuntu uses for the GUI - it is 7 on my CentOS workstation. So, try something like ctrl-alt-f1 then ctrl-alt-f2 then ctrl-alt-f3, etc. until you get a text console login prompt and then back to the GUI.

Thank you, I did try ctrl-alt and then all the F and a very interesting thing happened. Not only I could resume from suspend

but I solved the issue of brightness...so far the computer screen was not very bright, if I resume from suspend and press F6 (F7 or F8, not sure for I tried all of them) then it works normally...and it's bright enough!

Otherwise I am unable to set luminosity of the screen that is very dark

Well, sometimes it's just a matter of how you stick out your tongue! So, will this work for you OK? I know it isn't optimal, but sometimes you just have to go with what works.
