Was windows 7 preinstalled on the computer? Do you know how many windows partitions you have? After installing Kubuntu, were you able to boot either Kubuntu or windows 7? Does your Kubuntu version use Grub2?
Use you Kubuntu CD and open a terminal to get partition information with the command:
sudo fdisk -l (lower case Letter L) post it here.

It was preinstalled with windows. Windows was only on one partition but there was a recovery partition and one for a hp os called splashtop( what i'm using now). I was able to boot windows and kubuntu. Im not sure if it was grub 2 but if it's the lastest one i probably am.

If you are not able to boot win 7 or Kubuntu, use your Kubuntu install CD to get partition information. Load the CD, open a terminal and type the command: sudo fdisk -l (lower case Letter L in command) and post that information.
Do you have a windows 7 installation CD? A Recovery CD you could use to get windows back? The error you posted usually means Grub is pointing to the wrong partition.
