My cheapo RCA MP3 2 gig player works great with Ubuntu, Mint, Puppy, AntiX.
It is not the best but it suffices for me.
I have heard good things about Sandisk players also from members on this forum also.

We can't tell you which one is best.
Default player, Rhythmbox is very fine player and interface is good too. I prefer Amarok and using it for a long time.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Are you talking about a stand alone portable MP3 player, or do you mean an Audio/Media Player for Linux?
