A script to run at startup

For some reason my DPMS is playing up and blanking my screen after 10 min of inactivity. Shouldn't be a problem normally but I can't wake it up again without a reboot. I have found a workaround by disabling blanking via "XSET S NOBLANK" in a terminal at every boot. However if I forget, well you understand.. What I want is a script to run at boot to do this for me, like I would put in the old AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Please provide a fair amount of detail in your answer.
    Thanks for any help.

well if you are running a redhat type system, the you can probably just slap it in /etc/rc.local
