Linux mint wont connect to the internet.
Hello, I am a first time linux user and have recently installed Linux Mint onto my dell inspiron 1525. When i connect the Ethernet cable to my computer the two computers symbol in the bottom right hand corner starts searching for a connection, but unfortunetly does not find one. it says "no network connection". one thing that is strange to me but might not be to you is that i have installed fedora 12, 10, and 6, and all distros had the same exact problem.....i take the cable out of the laptop with linux and put it back in my desktop with xp pro and it works fine.......also my wireless 1395 card isnt recognized but thats an entirley different pain in the *** ill work on one problem at a time.....
thanks in advance

- 02-05-2010 #4The middle character here should be the pipe key, usually located right above enter on your keyboard. It might be a solid line or it might be two vertical dashes on the key. Not l but |dillon-laptop dillon # dmesg l tail
But actually, go ahead and just do
to create a text file, dmesg.txt, in your current working directory. Post or attach that.Code:dmesg > dmesg.txt
And please enclose the output of commands in code tags. it makes it easier to read.
Once we can figure out the wired, the wireless will be easy enough to get working. Or if you want to try and get that working first, you can do it the slightly more involved way.
This thread has links to the required packages. Download those to a USB stick, transfer them over to your Mint box, double click to install.
