bug trying to execute all update applications and reporting

I have a bug in the latest release of Ubuntu wich is stoppping me running update manager, or syn package manager. I cannot run a bug report as it comes back error. Is there a way to run using a command line. Any advice would be welcome. My system was fully up to date about a week ago.

You can update from the command line with

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

Post exactly any error messages you're receiving.

Thanks I tried the two commands together and then one by one and then at get without sudo and lo and behold I am back in business.
The system has just updated normally.
